Make borehole and rain water safe

If your water comes from a borehole, rain tank or well, the one thing an ordinary filter can't promise is that it's free of bacteria. A UV steriliser passes your water over an ultraviolet lamp that neutralises bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms — no chemicals added, no change to the taste. You simply choose the size that matches your flow, from a single drinking tap to the whole house.

The range

Which one is yours?

  • You want protection at one drinking tap, or after an undersink or RO system

The 6W with 1/4-inch ports connects straight into standard filter tubing and treats water at drinking-tap flow.

  • Your whole home runs on borehole or rain-tank water

The 25W suits smaller homes and the 30W larger households — both use 3/4-inch ports to fit typical domestic pipework.

  • You have a large home or high water demand

The 55W handles 45 litres a minute — choose the 1-inch or 3/4-inch port version to match your pipework.

  • You're supplying a farm, guesthouse or business

The 110W treats 90 litres a minute and is built for continuous round-the-clock operation.

Still weighing it up? The finder narrows it down in three questions.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • A UV steriliser doesn't filter anything out — no sediment, chemicals, tastes or odours. It deals with microorganisms only, which is why it's designed to be installed as the final stage after your filters.

  • The lamp only sterilises while it has mains power, so water drawn during a power outage passes through untreated — worth knowing if your area load-sheds.

  • For very high flows beyond 90 litres a minute, or complex commercial installations, it's worth asking The Water Filter Factory team for advice rather than guessing at sizing.

Keeping it running

The UV lamp is rated for 8,000 hours — roughly a year of use — so plan on an annual lamp change; replacement ballasts and quartz-sleeve O-rings are also available from The Water Filter Factory when your unit needs them.
